Rekord Hostel, Skopje – Review

If you are looking for budget accommodation in Skopje, hostels are a convenient substitute for pricey hotel bookings. And with the rental industry taking off, they too had to step up their game, offering more comfort at lower prices.

rekord hostel skopje

Rekord Hostel, as described in this review, is among the highest rated accommodation facilities in the city, with prices that hardly anyone can beat. Characterized by a cozy and modern interior, friendly staff, lots of amenities and what is likely the best location, it is at the top of the list when looking for hostels in Skopje.

This Rekord Hostel review will give you a comprehensive picture of the place, along with prices, booking directions, contact information, and much more. So let’s start from the beginning…

Rekord Hostel – Location

rekord hostel skopje Named after an area intersection, where different parts of the city meet, Rekord Hostel is located at the heart of Skopje. Booking your stay puts you within a walking distance to every major city attraction, and most of the restaurants, bars and nightclubs around the central area.

The hostel is literally meters away from the pedestrian street Macedonia, and less than 200 meters from the main city square, the Stone Bridge, Old railway and the GTC mall. The Old Bazar and the Kale fortress are less than half a kilometer away.

The River Vardar is very close as well, and the city park along with the main running lane and football stadium are within walking distance if you decide to go by foot.

Needless to say, the location alone would save you much on taxi, considering, especially, the number of bus lines that stop right in front of you. This makes Rekord Hostel a most convenient booking for enjoying the city by day, and the Skopje nightlife after midnight.

The location is crowded well past bedtime, so you won’t have to worry about safety when returning back during late night hours. Noise, however, doesn’t reach the rooms above, since they are equipped with soundproof windows, providing a shelter from the urban jungle.

When hungry, there is a rustic restaurant located next to the hostel, offering great food at affordable prices, with several bakeries dotting the map as well.

Record Hostel review – the bedrooms

rekord hostel skopje First of all, the interior layout of the hostel is great – the reception is on the right, followed by a neatly separated room on the left, and the common area in front. Then, passing through the common area, other bedrooms and bathrooms follow.

The entire place is bright, with lots of sunlight throughout the day, soothing colors, vintage posters, and much attention to detail (a vinyl player, a vintage telephone, cactus flowers, etc. are decorating every inch of the hostel) A cozy and chick place – it is definitely one of its kind.

Rekord Hostel offers both private rooms and mixed dorm style rooms. Both are generously spacious, and very well maintained. The interior is modern and recently renovated, with a private room being much more comfortable than booking a moderately rated hotel room, elsewhere in the city.

Each area is equipped with heating for the winter and air conditioning for the summer season, so the stay is super pleasant.

The beds are brand new, and they feature antibacterial mattresses. Each bunk bed has a separate shelf, personal light, curtain, power outlet, and locker storage with a private key. The bed linens are high quality and there are towels included as well.

The common room

rekord hostel skopje

With a TV on the wall and cozy furniture to sit back and enjoy, this is the place where guests come together to spend time, meet and have some fun. The room is bright throughout the entire day, and there is a walk-in terrace overlooking the park behind the building.

The staff is very young, super friendly, and all of them speak English. Open for questions and always ready to help, they will go above and beyond, trying to make you feel as if you were home.

You can spend your mornings watching TV, playing board games and shooting darts, enjoying the free breakfast, tea and coffee, preparing for the day ahead – all in all, a great and welcoming atmosphere.

Although a full sized kitchen is lacking, you would still have a fridge and a kitchen sink, along with plates, glasses, and eating utensils.

The bathrooms

No private bathrooms are available, regardless of your booking arrangement. However, they are surprisingly clean. That’s one of the reasons, I guess, why most of the visitors enjoy Rekord Hostel – the hygiene is exceptional!

The bathroom interior, as pictures nicely show, is state of the art. You can also enjoy a fully covered shower cabin as well, which is a rare thing when staying in a hostel. Especially one that is so affordable.

Rekord Hostel – Utilities

Setting the golden standard for every hostel in Skopje few years back, Rekord Hostel offers clean linens and towels, private storage, free Wi-Fi, parking, free breakfast, coffee and tea. It has a kitchen sink, fridge, plates and kitchenware, and a curtain, shelf and power outlet next to every bed.
