Being the most frequented tourist destination in Macedonia, Ohrid welcomes a huge influx of people throughout the summer season. Looking back in retrospect, we can see that the entrepreneurial spirit of this small town is on par with the increased demand for accommodation.
Hotels quickly took the backseat, leaving room for family run businesses like apartment villas and hostels. Modern, luxurious and relatively affordable, these accommodation facilities are worth considering. What follows is a comprehensive review on one of the most renowned hostels, located in the center of Ohrid.
A contemporary mix between the convenience of both hostels and hotels, City Inn Apartments is one of a kind. It features several luxurious accommodation options, at surprisingly low prices.
This City Inn Apartments review will put into context the location, convenience, staff, utilities, and price with a personal verdict at the very end. Hopefully, you will get all the necessary information before booking your stay.
City Inn Apartments – location
While Ohrid is not a particularly large town, it’s worth mentioning that most of the accommodation facilities are located on the periphery. Scattered along the shore, most of them are few kilometers away from the center.
City Inn Apartments, however, is conveniently located near the center of Ohrid. It is 9 minutes away from the beach, 5 minutes away from the main plaza Climent Ohridski, and 2 minutes away from the Old Bazar. Needless to say, it puts you within a walking distance to most local attractions, saving you on the usual taxi and bus fares when residing in the periphery.
It is unusual for a hostel to feature more than 2 double rooms, yet City Inn offers 7 of these. All have separate balconies with mountain views, and modern private bathrooms. This is the aspect, I suppose, that makes City Inn a mix between the traditional hotel environment and that of the youth hostel.
The hostel dorm rooms all feature separate balconies and bathrooms as well, and you can book your stay in 1 of the 7 available. The bunk bed layout is as follows – five six bed rooms, and two four bed rooms.
The double room layout is quite spacious, posing a legitimate competition to most highly rated hotels in the city. If you are traveling on a budget, yet value your privacy, there is hardly a better option. They feature two nightstands with drawers, reading lights, conveniently placed power outlets, a large mirror, make-up desk and huge closets.
The hostel dorm rooms are very spacious as well, with comfortable beds and mattresses, separate reading lights and power outlets, as well as spacious enough storage with a private key. They too feature a desk and a large mirror, and curtains for every bunk bed in order to offer some privacy.
The double rooms can be prepared to include a third bed, but you might have to make reservations upfront.
The generously spacious walk-in balconies are quite rare within this price range, and it’s definitely a surprise that every room has a separate one. Each bathroom is modern and spacious, and there is hot water throughout the entire day.
City Inn Apartments – Common areas
Comparing City Inn Apartments to other hostels doesn’t do much justice. It has a hotel-like layout, with surprisingly spacious common areas. The halls are long and wide, and the interior design is on par with most highly rated hostels throughout the country.
The facility includes a large joint area, conference room, an elevator, and restaurant with a kitchen.
They have a full time service at the front desk, ready to help with all sorts of questions, directions and daily travel arrangements.
City Inn Apartments – Utilities
The City Inn Apartments and Dorm Rooms is a large complex so expect many of the utilities you’ll find in a moderately priced hotel. Including free Wi-Fi, Air conditioning, Cable TV, Parking, Hot showers, Free breakfast, In-house restaurant, microwave, hair dryer, and a reception desk with an airport shuttle service, car rental, bike rental and kayak rental services.
To surmise, the City Inn Apartments and Dorm Rooms offer:
- Air conditioning
- Hot showers
- Free breakfast
- In-house restaurant
- Cable TV
- Hair dryers
- Front desk reception
- Shuttle bus service
- Bike rental service
- Car rental service
- Kayak rental service

Guest reviews of City Inn Apartments and Dorm Rooms
Available to book via Trip Advisor, Booking and Hostel World, City Inn has quite the track record. The reviews are unprecedented, which is to say most positive – whatever else might be written, this accommodation facility sets the standard for the entire region.
As of writing this City Inn Apartments review, the average rating on Trip Advisor is 5.0 (highest it can be), with 16 votes.
Booking counts 371 votes, effectively rating City Inn Apartments with a high 9.4 (out of 10).
And Hostel World shows 122 ratings by guests, with an average score of 9.2 (out of 10).
Needless to say, this is the highest score for the region bar none.
The affordable price, convenient location, and luxurious double rooms are frequently mentioned throughout the review section on each of the booking platforms.
City Inn Apartments – prices
While we’ve encountered a slight difference between Booking and the official website, it is reasonable to say that the prices are super affordable. The official website charges 14 euros per night, per person, for a stay in a four bed mix dormitory room, and 13 euros for one with six beds.
The standard double room costs 30 euros per night, per person, and the standard triple room 35 euros per night per person. This might be a mistake since the Booking platform shows the same price only for renting the entire room (which makes more sense considering the numbers). It also shows slightly more affordable prices for the mix dormitory rooms.
Payment is made after arrival, either via cash, or credit card. They accept Master Card, Visa, and Maestro. The taxes are included in the price.
The check in is from 13:00, and you have to be out by 12:30 on your checkout. No pets are allowed.
City Inn apartments review – verdict
Perhaps the best accommodation facility in this part of Macedonia, we rate City Inn Apartments with the highest score. It’s a family run business and the owners are the nicest people.
A modern and luxurious place, it is a mixture between the hotel layout and the youth convenience of the hostel. With a friendly staff always ready to help, tons of amenities and the best imaginable location near the center of Ohrid, this is a place worth considering. Also, it has the best value throughout the summer season.
